“SET OF CONSTRAINTS”: New Single Out Now

“Set of Constraints,” my new single and the title track from my upcoming album, is out now on all platforms.

This is one of my favorites off the new record - and one of my favorites in a long time - in no small part due to the guest spot from MJ Burns, who I’m lucky to have had sing with me. I’m really proud of this one, y’all.

Click here to get it wherever you stream, or download it from me directly. My new album will be out April 15. See you then!

Animalweapon Announced for Bull City Summit Headlining Set

I will be playing a headlining set during Bull City Summit’s music festival on Friday March 25th at The Pinhook! Tickets are $20 at the door; a badge for the whole summit will also get you in. Be ready to mask up and present proof of vaccination/negative COVID test at the door. This will be my first big festival show, so suffice it to say I’m mega excited. Also - I’ve got one more single on the way before my album comes out, and BCS will be my first time playing it live.

I’m so grateful to BCS for this amazing opportunity. Love you all and can’t wait to see you.

SET OF CONSTRAINTS: New album out 4/15. "DESERVE" video out now.

So, about a year and a half ago (late summer of 2020) ReyBee Inc. began representing Polychromatic Records, just I was revisiting an older sketch-kinda-thing that wound up being Summer’s Over. I put it out that in October with no clear idea of what the next batch of music would sound like.

“Great,” says Scot (founder of Polychromatic, my manager, and one of my best friends.) “Can you get a short EP done soon so we can have it out by January?”

“Fuck, no.” But I thought spring could work. Some songs started coming together; spring turned into summer; I went to Nashville to work on some of them, but still no EP (because of course not.)

But then, summer turned into fall and suddenly a few more songs came together VERY quickly. One of those was Deserve, which I started, finished and shot a video for all in a few weeks. And BOOM, that EP turned into an album, baybaaayyy.

This has been the shortest amount of time I’ve turned out any body of work, and while I can’t say it was entirely comfortable, it’s mostly been the smoothest-sailing out of anything I’ve done so far. The biggest lesson I learned from finishing Tyrannosaurus (which, by the way, I’m super happy to move on from) was that making music should be FUN, or at least not make you want to blow your fucking brains out. So, you know, mission accomplished.

I also got to collaborate with some of the best talent I’ve ever worked with, and here’s where I get to flex the hardest I’ve ever flexed. Rory Rositas at Omnisound Studios in Nashville and Travis Dark here in North Carolina delivered some astounding mixes, despite the headaches I gave them. There’s some gorgeous cello from Telalit Charsky, who has played on the scores for Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Halo: Infinite, and most recently HBO’s And Just Like That… and Netflix’s Lost in Space. There are some beautiful backing vocals from my dear friend MJ Burns, who makes a cameo in the Deserve video. And then, the world-renowned, Grammy-winning Vlado Meller (who’s mastered Johnny Cash, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Oasis, Frank Ocean, Phantogram, Shakira, A Tribe Called Quest, every Kanye album from Late Registration through Yeezus - you know what, there’s a lot more so just look at his Wikipedia page) mastered this album, which I still haven’t wrapped my brain around. And of course, my long-time friend and collaborator Blake T. Brady nailed the artwork and CD packaging (as he always does.)

My new album, Set of Constraints, will be out April 15, 2022. We’ve also got a release show booked in Raleigh (more on that later.)  In the meantime, here’s that video for Deserve.

- P.
